First Day Back in the Gym!

Today was my first workout since injuring my lower back, about six months ago. I still can’t sit for long periods of time, and still feel discomfort sometimes when turning over in bed, or putting shoes on. So I wanted to be really cautious about what I did today, and decided to avoid anything that would put pressure on my lower back, like overhead lifting or any kind of bending.

So this morning (being a public holiday), I did foam rolling and some core exercises, had breakfast, went for a walk with Rob and TJ for about 45 minutes, then headed off to the gym. I decided to do shoulders (front and side raises) and arms (bicep curls and tricep pushdowns). I did three sets of 12-15 reps for each exercise, using 3kg DBs for the shoulder and bicep  exercises, and around 12kg on the cable for triceps. I followed this up with 20 minutes on the elliptical.

So while I only did isolation exercises and the weights were really light, it put a smile on my face to be doing something I love again.
